MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Rainfall in the region has rivers swelling with some at or near flood stage. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Pearl River in Marion County stands at 16.6 inches.
Marion County emergency Management Director Aaron Greer says the Pearl is expected to crest around 1 a.m. Friday at 17 inches, just over flood stage in Marion County. Some areas should expect flooding. Remember, never drive through flooded roads. Turn around don't drown!
EMA Director Aaron Greer says, "Low lying areas are going to start flooding. We'll see some flooding on 43 South near River View Estates also Camp Lane on 43 South. Also, areas around Old 35 South. You never know how deep it's going to get. It could wash roads 5, 10, 15 ft. We've seen during Isaac a road up in the north part of the county that washed out pretty good and you could lose a vehicle in it. You stand a chance of washing down river and also drowning."
Again, if you come across a road with standing water on it please do not try to go through it. Find an alternate route and notify the Marion County Sheriff's Office of the flooding.
