Columbia and Marion County outsource trash services

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- Columbia and Marion County approved privatizing trash disposal on Thursday.

Red River Waste Disposal won the competitive bidding process and both the city and county chose the same company to ensure the best rate. Officials say the transition will save tax dollars and prove more efficient.

City and county sanitation workers that will be laid off have first opportunity to be hired on with Red River as they already know the trash routes.
